HISTORIC BEAUTY OF GALLE

Situated on the south western tip, Galle is a major city in Sri Lanka. It it the provincial capital and the largest city in the country. Galle is a vibrant and beautiful city famous for its fortified city built by Portuguese in 1588, later extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century. Galle Fort is recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural World Heritage Site, and is the largest remaining fortress in Asia built by European occupiers.
