Itinerary

We will welcome you at the airport without any rush. When you are ready, you will set off to Anuradhapura, this will be a road trip of approximately 4 hours. The journey will be fascinating with refreshment stops on the way. Depending on the time on your preferance, you can stop for a cup of tea/coffee or some food.  You will arrive at the hotel in Anuradhapura city to spend that evening totally relaxed! Enjoy a delicious dinner at the hotel and get enough rest to visit the ancient city of Anuradhapura on the next day.

Enjoy your delicious breakfast in the hotel and start visiting the sacred city of Anuradhapura. This sacred city was established around a cutting from the ‘tree of enlightenment’, the Buddha’s fig tree, brought there in the 3rd century B.C. by Sanghamitta, the founder of an order of Buddhist nuns. Anuradhapura, a Ceylonese political and religious capital that flourished for 1,300 years, was abandoned after an invasion in 993. Hidden away in dense jungle for many years, the splendid site, with its palaces, monasteries and monuments, is now accessible once again. Your tour guide will help you to visit all the important places in this massive site. Your next destination is Sigiriya Village and it’s a calm road trip of 1.5 hours. You will relax at the hotel in Sigiriya and enjoy your dinner there.

Enjoy your delicious breakfast in the hotel (Early breakfast on this day) and leave to visit the ancient city of  Sigiriya. The ruins of the capital built by the parricidal King Kassapa I (477–95) lie on the steep slopes and at the summit of a granite peak standing some 180m high (the ‘Lion’s Rock’, which dominates the jungle from all sides). A series of galleries and staircases emerging from the mouth of a gigantic lion constructed of bricks and plaster provide access to the site. You have the option to enjoy an authentic lunch in this area and/or you will take another scenic road trip of 1 hour to visit the Polonnaruwa ancient city. Polonnaruwa was the second capital of Sri Lanka after the destruction of Anuradhapura in 993. It comprises, besides the Brahmanic monuments built by the Cholas, the monumental ruins of the fabulous garden-city created by Parakramabahu I in the 12th century. You will return to the hotel in Sigiriya after the visit, relax in your resort and enjoy the delicious dinner!

Enjoy your delicious breakfast in the hotel and drive 20 minutes to discover the UNESCO world heritage Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple. A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues. Your next destination is the UNESCO world heritage Sacred City of Kandy which will be a scenic road trip of approximately 2 hours. This sacred Buddhist site, popularly known as the city of Senkadagalapura, was the last capital of the Sinhala kings whose patronage enabled the Dinahala culture to flourish for more than 2,500 years until the occupation of Sri Lanka by the British in 1815. It is also the site of the Temple of the Tooth Relic (the sacred tooth of the Buddha), which is a famous pilgrimage site. You will visit the temple of tooth relic and then go to your hotel to relax and enjoy the delicious dinner!

Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and set off to discover the little England of Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya! Nuwara Eliya is much loved by Britain’s early day settlers and tea planters, who enjoyed its rolling hills, conifer forests and cool climate. Nuwara Eliya is set against beautiful backdrops of Mountains, Valleys, Waterfalls and Tea Plantations. You will visit a tea plantation on your way to Nuwara Eliya and discover the tea culture. You will enjoy a delicious cup of tea in the cool climate at the tea production center. You will explore Nuwara Eliya in the evening. You will enjoy a delicious dinner at the hotel!

After an early breakfast at hotel, leave for Horton Plains, The highest plateau in the country. It is one of the very important National parks in Sri Lanka. The most awesome physical feature of the Horton Plains is the escarpment that falls 880 meters to the lowlands. Aptly known as the ‘World’s End’ the view from the precipice of the countryside below towards the south coast is spectacular. On completion returned to Nuwara Eliya and proceed to Nanu Oya Railway station to catch the train and a charming train ride to Ella. Ella is an excellent base for keen trekkers. Overnight stay at Ella.

After breakfast at the hotel start trekking in Ella rock the magnificent view through Ella Gap. Enchanting and spectacular sceneries among the tea plantations. On completion proceed to Yala National park . En route visit Rawana Water Fall & Buduruwagala temple. Then visit yala national park by jeep . End of the safari back to hotel at Thissamaharama.

Drive to visit Galle. The Galle Fort was first built by the Portugese on the Southwestern coast of Sri Lanka. The initial fortifications, which were built in the late 16th century, were quite basic. The fort underwent extensive modifications in the 17th century during the Dutch occupation, making it one of the most important archeological, architectural and historic monuments to illustrate the European influence in South East Asia between the 16th and 19th centuries.
