TEA PARADISE OF HATTON
Hatton is the largest and one of the busiest cities in the Nuwara Eliya district. Founded during the British Colonial Era, it was first used for coffee plantations before growing tea. Best known for the Ceylon Tea plantations, Hatton is often known as the tea capital of Sri Lanka. Hatton is a major center of the country’s tea industry, where over 48% of its population is employed on the tea estates. The birth place of the Hatton National Bank and the Browns Group were in Hatton.
