Avissawella is a township located in the Colombo district of the western province. Also known as Sithawakapura, Avissawella was the capital of the Sithawaka kingdom, which was ruled by King Mayadunne and later by King Rajasinhe the first. Avissawella is also associated with the legend of Sita Devi of Ramayana.
