Highlights

Prepare to be delighted with this incredibly popular lagoon kayaking trip! We will pick you up from your hotel in Negombo and will drive you to our lagoon jetty where you will meet our friendly and experienced team. Here, you can change and get ready for the tour.

All equipment is provided, and your belongings will be stored securely in waterproof bags or the cruise boat lockers. Bring your waterproof mobile phone covers so you don’t miss out on those must-have photo opportunities!

Never Kayaked before? No problem! You will receive a full safety briefing before you get onboard. If members of your group don’t fancy taking a kayak across the lagoon… don’t worry… Two people can travel on the safety boat and enjoy listening to music of your choice whilst our friendly captain points out interesting features such as the local fishermen, beautiful sea birds, and local wildlife.

When choosing your kayak, you can either team up with a friend or our English speaking rowing crew member or, of course, kayak alone… all depending on your experience level and personal preference… remember our safety boat will always travel nearby!

The journey across the lagoon takes approximately 30 minutes to the sand island where we can take a short break. You might see the large pelicans in the area.

We will then continue another 20 minutes to the monkey island. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the wild Torque Macaque monkeys up close and personal. You will have the opportunity to feed the monkeys with fruit and spend some time watching them play.

Next we will continue another 20 minutes to Jesus Island. The shallow water is perfect for enjoying a lagoon swim or walk (depending on the day and your preference)

Whilst our crew prepare the table and chairs, laid out in the shallow water, with a delicious selection of fruit, local snacks and cold beverages, you have the opportunity to take photos whilst enjoying the sunset. Enjoying the beautiful scenery whilst watching the setting sun is a magical way to spend time sharing a drink with friends in this special location.

When it is time to return to shore, our staff can either take the kayaks back so you can travel in the cruise boat… or you can enjoy taking the kayak across the lagoon with the night sky above you. Once back on dry land, you have the opportunity to use the showering facilities on site. You will then be transferred back to your hotel in Negombo.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

The weather in Sri Lanka is based on the two rainy seasons; Yala (Little rain) season and Maha (Big rain) season. Over the years, these seasons are known to have arrived early or run late but the good thing is these seasons have sunny and bright hours, days and weeks in-between.

From December until April, Monsoon winds do not blow. And in July & August.

The South-Western Monsson (Yala) will blow from May to June and will tail off in July-August. Colombo and the South seas (Mirissa, Galle…) will be rough during this time. This is the time to visit the Eastern beaches of Sri Lanka (Nilaveli, Trincomalee). The cultural areas and the Central highlands are still great to visit!

The North-Eastern Monsoon (Maha) will blow from September to November and will tail off in December. This season brings a lot of rain to all parts of the island but luckily The sunny and bright hours, days and weeks in-between is common to this season too. Land slides, train breaks and floods are quite common during September, October and November and quite likely in the first half of December if the tail end of the Monsoon blows stronger!

Maha is the season of best deals, so it’s still great to consider for that kind of a holiday!
